Myotonics are a "Tough" Breed for Exceptional Performance & Beauty
Brightman Farm Myotonic Goats
Our goats are pasture raised on a chemical-free pasture planted especially for them with 7 types of goat forage and year round grazing. Due to high quality forage and lack of regular confinement to barns or stalls, they are very healthy and happy goats. Currently, we are only producing MGR Registered Purebred Myotonic goats. If you are looking for high quality breeding stock for breeding or meat production, goats for brush clearing or adorable, entertaining pets, we can provide either!
Brightman Farm Goats live in a Beautiful Pasture Setting on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. We developed our pasture without chemicals in 2014 specifically for our goats, about 2 years before their arrival, using a 7 forage plant mix created specifically for goats in our climate region containing orchard grass, tall fescue (endophyte free), chicory, alfalfa, white yarrow, bird's foot trefoil and red clover! As a result, our goats are happy, fast growing and doing very well!
As of August 2026, we are working on the development of only the Myotonic breed. Our Brightman Farm breeding goats are developed from reputable MGR breeders and have given us outstanding quality goats for production. We are active members of the Myotonic Goat Registry (MGR) and strive to register all of our breeding offspring. They are excellent, hardy goats with great mothering, birthing and kid raising skills. Udders are compact and efficient, very rarely needing assistance from excessive milk production. Temperment is normally gentle and easy to handle in both genders. Their bodies have more muscle/meat than other meat goat breeds because they have the highest meat to bone ratio. Bucks can be very successfully used to add muscle/meat over other larger breed does for meat production. Because of their occasional "fainting" genetics, it is not a good idea to run them in the same pastures as other larger breeds.
In 2016, we began with high quality, performance tested Kiko bucks: an NKR Registered 100% New Zealand Kiko and an NKR Registered Purebred Performance Tested Kiko. Initially, some Kiko bucks were crossbred with MGR Registered Myotonic goats and have produced some excellent offspring for our customers use as pets, grazers and as meat or dairy breeders.
Our NKR Registered Purebred Kiko Herdsire ' WYN Geronimo' (photo included) was in the top 10 of the 2015 Western Maryland Meat Goat Performance Test, which measures parasite resistance and growth rate. The crossbred or purebred goats were all sold as commercial breeding stock or as pets. Our crossbred wethers (neutered males) of both breeds are beautiful, hardy and entertaining as pets and companions for humans or other animals and make excellent grazers for brush clearing. Our crossbred bucks and does are excellent breeding stock for the meat goat industry, as they are hardy and high quality meat breeds.
We had been breeding up to Purebred status with our Kiko goats since 2016 and the resulting goats have been very hardy and beautiful. The very small amount of Myotonic breed left in the Purebred Kiko resulted in a bit more muscle and great parasite resistance, more compact udders and smaller teat structure.
Having experienced raising both Kiko & Myotonic breeds for 10 years, we have chosen to specialize in the breed of Myotonics which best suits our current lifestyle and priorities.
It is always best to visit our farm and see the goats to understand their quality and environment.
